ENPOWER and UNDP Strengthen Cooperation on Energy Poverty and Just Transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 22 December 2025 between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The cooperation has been established through activities implemented within the ENPOWER project, which is implemented by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on behalf of the University of Banja Luka.

The Memorandum was signed by Prof. Dr. Darko Knežević, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Mr. Renaud Meyer, Resident Representative of UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aim of the Memorandum is to strengthen cooperation through joint activities focused on the development of a questionnaire for the analysis of energy poverty in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the identification of vulnerable groups, the exchange of data and analytical inputs related to energy poverty, the development of technical solutions and recommendations to improve energy efficiency, the implementation of pilot projects, capacity building of local communities, institutions and technical staff, as well as the promotion of practices contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.

The aforementioned activities will also be implemented within the framework of Study 4: Energy Poverty and Socio-Economic Aspects, developed as part of the ENPOWER project, further strengthening the analytical and research basis for the development of policies and measures aimed at reducing energy poverty in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This cooperation represents an important step towards a systematic approach to addressing energy poverty and advancing sustainable energy development in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
