As an architecture engineer and researcher at the University of Banja Luka, Slobodan Peulić came to the ENPOWER Summer School with a keen interest in technical innovation. He was eager to strengthen his expertise in building design and energy modelling, and the programme delivered with sessions that deepened his understanding of how buildings can become more efficient, resilient, and affordable.
Lectures from experts like Asel Doranova and Alice Mugnini gave him new technical insights, particularly in the area of energy optimization. But what surprised Slobodan most was the focus on energy justice. The workshop on fairness and participation in the energy transition was a completely new experience for him, broadening his perspective on how social and ethical dimensions must accompany technical solutions.
“I came for building modelling insights and left with new perspectives on energy justice”, he noted.
Slobodan also valued the interdisciplinary setting of the Summer School. Engaging with colleagues from law, economics, and policy opened his eyes to different ways of thinking and problem-solving. He found the diversity of perspectives not only stimulating but essential for addressing energy poverty, a challenge that cannot be solved by technology alone.
For him, the event was both training, and an opportunity to connect with peers across Europe, exchange ideas, and imagine future collaborations. As he brings his new knowledge back to the University of Banja Luka, Slobodan sees himself applying both the technical skills and the social awareness he gained, reinforcing the need to design solutions that are innovative, inclusive, and fair.
