UNIMC outreach links sport, sustainability and ENPOWER

The ENPOWER project continued its outreach work this week with a lecture to 27 high-school students from the Liceo Stabili-Trebbiani (region of Ascoli Piceno), delivered at the Pantaleoni Teaching Hub in Macerata. The presentation (given by Prof. Lorenzo Compagnucci of the University of Macerata) explored the intersection of the sports industry and environmental sustainability and showcased how targeted energy measures can support both operational efficiency and social objectives.

Titled “The sports industry: status, environmental sustainability and future perspectives,” the lecture surveyed the current landscape of sports infrastructure in Italy, its energy footprint, and the specific vulnerabilities of sports facilities to rising energy costs and climate impacts. The talk examined practical policy instruments and industrial measures to improve energy performance. Prof. Compagnucci highlighted ENPOWER’s applied research approach, noting how pilot studies and Living Lab methods can generate evidence for municipal and institutional decision-making.

“It was inspiring to see young people engage with the technical and social dimensions of energy challenges in an area as visible and community-centred as sport”, said Prof. Compagnucci.

The session formed part of ongoing ENPOWER engagement with schools and local communities, aimed at building awareness of energy poverty, strengthening university-school links and encouraging interdisciplinary study choices that combine technology, policy and social impact.
